Our Programs

At Four Winds Resource Center, our programs are designed by the community, for the community. We offer six areas of programming — all rooted in our mission to support a thriving, connected, and inclusive Haines.

Food Access

Chilkat Valley Food Hub
Food insecurity is real and widespread in our rural community — and at FWRC, we meet it head-on.

Victory Garden
Entering its 7th season, the Victory Garden is one of FWRC’s most beloved programs — and it keeps growing.

Health & Fitness

The evidence is clear: places like FWRC don’t just improve physical health — they are essential infrastructure for mental and social wellbeing. And we believe that taking care of your body shouldn’t require a long drive or expensive membership. At FWRC, we bring health and wellness programming right to the heart of the upper valley.

Winter Gear Swap

Every fall, Four Winds Resource Center hosts the Annual Winter Gear Swap — a community tradition that makes quality outdoor and winter gear accessible to everyone in the Chilkat Valley, regardless of income. Swap what you have. Take what you need.

Tool Library

Why buy a tool you’ll only use once? The FWRC Tool Library lets Haines Borough residents borrow a wide range of tools — from a simple hand tool to a log splitter — for the price of a $50 annual membership which is open to all Haines Borough residents. Whether you’re building a deck, repairing a fence, or tackling a renovation, our Tool Library has what you need. With about 20 current members and growing, the library is a practical resource that saves money and builds community. We’re actively working to expand our catalog and double our membership.

Arts & Entertainment

The Chilkat Valley is home to extraordinary artists, musicians, performers, and makers — and FWRC is proud to be the space where that creativity can shine. Our Annual Art Exhibition happens in August and features work from local artists and boasts attendance of more than 75. FWRC brings the valley together through the power of the arts. We also offer an open art studio every Saturday in the winter months. We believe art is not a luxury — it is essential to community life. Everyone is welcome to attend, participate, and be inspired. Contact us to rent the space for your art event.

Youth Activities

Investing in young people is investing in the future of the Chilkat Valley. FWRC promotes youth-focused programs that inspire curiosity, build friendships, and create lasting memories. Through the years we have offered these programs: • Arts Camp for Kids — a hands-on creative camp for young makers • Game Night — fun for all ages • Kids Movie Night — community screenings for families • Mosquito Lake Cleanup — youth-led environmental stewardship in action We are continuously adding to our youth programming as we grow. If you have ideas for programs, or want to volunteer to lead an activity for kids, we’d love to hear from you.

Emergency Preparedness

In the upper Chilkat Valley, being prepared is a way of life. Isolated by geography and weather, our community knows that when something goes wrong, neighbors are often the first — and most important — line of support.
